
The global plastics treaty negotiations are at a critical juncture. A new Chair has been elected at INC-5.3, and there is renewed momentum among Member States. Today, we are publishing our 2026 Policy Recommendations, technical guidance that can help turn that momentum into progress.
Our latest policy resource sets out our asks, the benefits that a treaty based on harmonised regulations would deliver for businesses, governments, and society, as well as the work needed to get there, across six priority areas:
This resource draws on both our Treaty on a Page and the findings of our Economic Rationale study, translating established positions into practical guidance for the negotiations ahead.
Taken together, they reflect our view that a treaty with harmonised regulations is (a) the lowest cost and most effective way to tackle plastic pollution, and (b) achievable with focused discussions and alignment on key provisions. There’s no time to waste.
